Goldback Mintage by State, Year and Denomination: The 2026 Reference

Every Goldback production figure we could trace, for every state series, by year, denomination and edition — with the entity that published each figure named, and every gap recorded rather than filled in.

Key takeaways

  • 210 tracked records across 10 state series. A record is one series, year, denomination and edition combination. It is not the same as 210 published figures: 28 of them have no published mintage at all.
  • 164 records carry a figure published by Goldback Inc. itself and 18 rest on a named dealer alone.
  • An issuer figure is not the same as a confirmed year and edition. Only 89 records have both confirmed by the issuer, because most issuer cards name a figure without naming an edition and many state no year.
  • Unpublished mintages concentrate in the newest releases. Idaho has 9 of its 10 records unpublished, and the 2026 series are where the issuer archive still reads “coming soon”.
  • “Alpha is always rarer” does not hold on the dealer figures, and the issuer publishes no edition split that could confirm or refute it.

How to read a record

A mintage figure is only as good as the entity that published it, and what that entity actually said. Those are two different questions, so every record answers both.

Goldback Inc. publishes production figures in its own archive, and named dealers publish larger charts compiled from their own records. Where both exist for one note, this reference keeps both and does not replace one with the other.

The issuer’s cards are also less precise than they look. Most name a figure and a denomination without naming an edition, so they cannot settle whether an Alpha or a standard note is the one counted, and many state no mintage year. A record can therefore hold an issuer-published figure while its year or its edition still rests on a dealer’s attribution. That distinction is the verification tier.

What each verification tier means
Tier Records What it means
Issuer · year + edition 89 Goldback Inc. publishes the figure, its card states the mintage year, and only one edition exists at that denomination and year, so the figure is unambiguous.
Issuer · year only 8 The issuer’s card states the year but names no edition while two editions exist, so the Alpha-versus-standard attribution is the dealer’s.
Issuer · edition only 34 Only one edition competes for the figure, but the issuer’s card states no mintage year, so the year shown is the dealer’s attribution.
Issuer · figure only 33 Goldback Inc. publishes the figure, but confirms neither its year nor its edition. Both are the dealer’s attribution.
Dealer only 18 No issuer figure was located. The record rests on a named dealer’s published chart alone.
Not published 28 No published figure was located anywhere on the observation dates. This is a recorded absence, not a zero.

Coverage by state series

The chart counts records, meaning one series-year-denomination-edition combination. It does not count Goldbacks printed, and a longer bar means a longer documented history rather than a larger production run.

Goldback mintage record coverage by state series and verification tier A horizontal stacked bar for each of the ten Goldback state series, showing how many tracked records carry a figure published by Goldback Inc. with its year and edition confirmed, with only one of those confirmed, with neither confirmed, how many rest on a named dealer alone, and how many have no published figure located. Utah and Nevada have the most records; the newest series carry the most unpublished records. The chart compares record coverage, not quantities printed. What the figures support

One assumption is common among collectors, and the published figures do not support it: that an Alpha edition is always the scarcer one.

A comparison is only possible where both an Alpha and a standard figure exist for the same series, year and denomination. On that basis:

Matched Alpha versus standard pairs — dealer-attributed editions
Series and year Matched denominations Alpha figure higher
Florida 2025 8 8 of 8
Oklahoma 2025 8 8 of 8
Wyoming 2022 5 0 of 5
South Dakota 2023 1 0 of 1

The direction reverses between series, so the edition label carries no consistent information about production quantity. Anyone pricing an Alpha on an assumption of scarcity should check the figure for that specific series and year.

This comparison is dealer-attributed and the issuer cannot corroborate it. Of the issuer cards read for this reference, all but three name no edition at all. Goldback Inc. publishes production figures at the denomination level, so the split between Alpha and standard comes from the dealer charts in every case.

Where the issuer publishes identical figures in consecutive years

New Hampshire carries the same figure for 2022 and 2023 in every matched denomination, on the issuer’s own archive:

New Hampshire, issuer-published figures for 2022 and 2023
Denomination 2022 2023
1 333,747 333,747
5 23,218 23,218
10 14,417 14,417
25 7,387 7,387
50 10,331 10,331

Two consecutive production years matching to the unit across every denomination is unusual. It is recorded here as the issuer publishes it, without a theory about why. An earlier version of this page withheld these records as a suspected dealer transcription error; the issuer archive shows the figures are its own, so they are reported.

A figure the issuer publishes in a malformed form

One issuer card renders its figure with a decimal point where a thousands separator belongs. It is recorded exactly as published and read in the obvious way, rather than silently corrected:

  • New Hampshire 2021, 50 standard: the issuer’s card reads 6.540 2021 New Hampshire Fifty Goldbacks were produced., recorded here as 6,540.

What these figures cannot support

  • A ranking of the rarest surviving Goldbacks. A print run is not a survival count.
  • Any relationship between a print run and a price, a bid or a return.
  • A production trend into 2026, since most 2026 figures remain unpublished.
  • An edition-level scarcity claim corroborated by the issuer, which publishes no edition split.
  • A total of all Goldbacks ever produced. The tracked records are not a complete production history.

The full record

All 210 tracked records follow, with the verification tier and publishing entity for each. A dash in the mintage column means no published figure was located for that record.

An asterisk on a year means the issuer’s card states no mintage year, so the year shown is the dealer’s attribution. Gold content is a fixed manufacturing specification and does not vary by series. Full source URLs for every record are held in the dataset behind this page.

Download this research as data — 192-record issuer subset

goldback-mintage-issuer-subset-192-2026-10-13.csv

CSV · 192 records · 18 fields · every record carrying its verification tier, both source provenances and its observation dates.

This file is a subset, not the full reference. This page carries all 210 tracked records; the download carries 192 and excludes the 18 that rest on a dealer compilation alone. Those 18 stay visible and attributed here, and are held out of the file while their redistribution rights are resolved.

An issuer figure does not mean every field is issuer-verified. Of the 164 records carrying an issuer-published figure, 89 have both their year and their edition confirmed by the issuer; for the other 75 one or both of those attributes rests on dealer reporting. Each record states which.

Our selection, verification classifications and documentation are licensed CC BY 4.0, to the extent we hold those rights; the underlying figures are their sources’ published facts. Field definitions, licence scope, limitations and the recommended citation are in the data dictionary.

A reported print run is not a surviving population, a scarcity ranking, a resale value or an investment return. It records how many notes were reported as produced, nothing more.

Methodology

This reference was rebuilt from primary sources on 2026-10-13 after an earlier version misclassified most of its records. The method below is written out in full because the errors it corrects were not visible from the data alone.

  • Two provenances, kept separate. Goldback Inc.’s own archive was read on 2026-10-13; the named dealer charts on 2026-10-12. A record corroborated by the issuer keeps the dealer that originally reported it, so neither source is ever misattributed.
  • The issuer archive paginates, and its filters do not. Each state view declares its page count while serving the first page. The obvious page parameters are ignored and return an identical document, so only the path-based page segments reach the rest of the archive. An earlier extraction read one page of three and concluded the issuer published almost nothing; 168 figures were found once every page was read.
  • Every fetch asserted a positive control. A page that did not contain a string known to be present on a healthy archive page was recorded as a failed fetch, never as an empty archive, so a network failure cannot masquerade as a non-disclosure.
  • The issuer does not use one sentence form. Four cards state their figure differently, including a numeral denomination, a Limited Early Release denomination and one decimal-point figure. Each form is parsed explicitly, because a parser built for the common form drops the others silently and every dropped card reads as a gap.
  • Denominations were normalised before anything was compared. The dealer charts use fraction glyphs where the issuer archive spells fractions out. Comparing the raw text fails on every fractional record while looking exactly like an absent issuer figure, so both vocabularies are mapped to one form and the mapping is asserted to overlap before matching begins.
  • Year and edition are treated as independent. They are recorded as separate fields rather than ranked, so a record missing both is visible as its own tier instead of being folded into whichever was tested first. 33 records are in exactly that position.
  • One issuer card confirms one record. A card already matched cannot corroborate a second record, and an edition-unspecified card is never counted as independent confirmation of both an Alpha and a standard figure.
  • Conflicts are reported, not resolved by preference. Where two dealers disagreed, the issuer’s own published figure settled the record and the disagreement is stated as a fact about the sources rather than as one dealer’s error.
  • Nothing is estimated. No figure is interpolated, averaged, or inferred from gold content, pricing, serial numbers or stock levels. Where no figure is published, the record says so.
  • Scope and limits. The ten state series only; regional one-off releases are outside this dataset. 163 of the 168 issuer figures matched a tracked record; the remaining 5 describe notes not yet in this dataset and are held for a later expansion rather than added mid-correction. An absent series-year-denomination combination is not asserted never to have existed.

Correction history

2026-10-13 — major correction.

The version of this page published on 2026-10-12 stated that five of the ten state series carried no issuer-published mintage figure, that 144 of 170 figures came from a single dealer chart, and that twelve records were withheld because a dealer had duplicated them. All three statements were wrong. They are set out below with what replaced them, separated into the errors that were in the original research and the errors found in the audit that corrected it.

Errors in the original research

  • The issuer archive was read incompletely. Each state view declares its page count while serving only the first page, and its obvious page parameters are ignored, returning an identical document. The original extraction read one page of up to three and concluded the issuer published almost nothing. Reading every page found 168 issuer figures, and 164 of 210 records carry an issuer figure rather than the 26 originally classified. The single-source dependency reported as this page’s central finding was an artifact of that incomplete read.
  • Four issuer cards were dropped by the parser. The issuer does not use one sentence form: one card states a numeral denomination, two name a Limited Early Release denomination, and one renders its figure with a decimal point where a thousands separator belongs. Each dropped card read as a non-disclosure rather than as a parsing failure.
  • Not every issuer figure lives in the archive. The Idaho Limited Early Release figure is published on its own programme page, and was classified dealer-reported because only the archive had been searched.
  • Ten records were withheld on an unsupported theory. New Hampshire figures repeating across 2022 and 2023 were treated as a dealer transcription error. The issuer publishes them identically itself, so the repetition is the issuer’s and the records are restored and reported.
  • Two withheld records were a dealer disagreement that the issuer settles. Where two dealers published different figures, the issuer’s own figure matches one of them. Both records are restored, and the disagreement is stated as a fact about the sources rather than as one dealer’s error.

Errors found and fixed during the audit

  • Fraction glyphs never matched. The dealer charts write fractional denominations as glyphs where the issuer archive spells them out. The first reconciliation compared the raw text, so every fractional record silently failed to match — and the failure looked identical to an absent issuer figure. It produced a phantom category of records and an inflated count of unmatched issuer cards. Both vocabularies are now mapped to one form, and the mapping is asserted to overlap before any comparison runs.
  • Eighteen conflicts that did not exist. A first pass reported eighteen disagreements between issuer and dealer figures. Every one was a matching artifact from ignoring the edition and from treating year-unstated cards as year-specific. Under strict matching the comparable records agree and none disagree.
  • Year and edition were ranked rather than recorded separately. Testing one before the other hid the records confirming neither; 33 records are in exactly that position. They are now carried as independent fields with their own tier.
  • Provenance was collapsed into one source field. A record corroborated by the issuer still cited the dealer chart that first reported it, which would have misattributed an issuer figure to a dealer. Issuer and dealer provenance are now separate fields, each with its own observation date.

The page has been rebuilt around its original purpose, a cross-series mintage reference, rather than around a disclosure-gap finding that the corrected data does not support. Verification is recorded as four distinct issuer tiers, because an issuer-published figure often confirms neither the year nor the edition it is attached to.

Four checks now run on every rebuild: each source fetch asserts a positive control, so a failed request cannot read as an absence; denomination vocabularies are normalised and their overlap asserted before any comparison; year and edition confirmation are independent fields, so a record lacking both is visible; and each issuer figure confirms at most one record, so one figure cannot appear to corroborate two.

How to cite this page

When quoting a specific figure, cite the publisher named in its record and the matching observation date rather than this page alone, and say whether the figure is issuer-published, and whether its year and edition are confirmed.

The Goldback Guide, “Goldback Mintage by State, Year and Denomination: The 2026 Reference.” Mintage records compiled from Goldback Inc. and named dealer sources, issuer sources read 2026-10-13 and dealer sources read 2026-10-12. The coverage counts should be re-checked before republication. Goldback adds figures to its archive over time, so a record that reads not published today may carry an issuer figure later.

For what each denomination contains before comparing print runs, see the denomination reference. For a worked example separating standard, Alpha and Limited Early Release counts within one series, see the Florida series review. Frequently Asked Questions

How many Goldback mintage figures are published?

This reference tracks 210 records across 10 state series. A record is one series, year, denomination and edition combination, not a published figure. Of those, 164 carry a figure published by Goldback Inc. itself, 18 rest on a named dealer alone, and 28 have no published figure located anywhere.

Which Goldback series has the most unpublished mintages?

Idaho, where 9 of its 10 tracked records have no published figure. The unpublished records concentrate in the 2026 releases across several series, where the issuer archive reads "mintage information coming soon".

Does an issuer-published figure mean the year and edition are confirmed?

No, and this reference keeps the two apart. Most issuer cards name a figure without naming an edition, and many state no mintage year. A figure can therefore be issuer-published while its year or its Alpha-versus-standard attribution still rests on a dealer. Each record states which of those is confirmed.

Are Alpha Goldbacks always produced in smaller numbers than standard notes?

No. On the dealer-reported figures, the Alpha figure is higher than the standard figure in every matched denomination of the 2025 Florida and Oklahoma series, while the reverse holds across Wyoming 2022. The issuer does not publish an edition split, so this comparison is dealer-sourced and is not corroborated by Goldback Inc.

Are these mintage figures independently audited?

No. No independent audit of Goldback production figures was located. An issuer-published figure means the number appears on a page Goldback Inc. controls, which is a question of provenance rather than verification.

What does "not published" mean here?

It means no published figure was located for that record on either the issuer’s pages or a named dealer’s chart on the observation dates. It does not mean zero, and it does not mean the note does not exist. Where the issuer archive reads "mintage information coming soon", that is recorded as not published.

Why does New Hampshire show identical figures for 2022 and 2023?

Because Goldback Inc. publishes them identically. All 5 matched denominations carry the same figure in both years on the issuer’s own archive. An earlier version of this page treated the repetition as a dealer transcription error; the issuer archive shows it is not, and the figures are reported as published.

Can I download this Goldback mintage data?

A source-attributed CSV of the full dataset is in preparation, carrying every record with its verification tier, both issuer and dealer provenance, observation dates and qualifications. It is dated in its filename so a cited version stays citable after a later revision.
